Role Purpose Reporting directly to the Manager, Legal and Governance, this role plays an integral part in delivering excellent legal advice and services across the team's functions. The role requires an adaptable and collaborative lawyer who is skilled in one or more of relevant areas of law, including commercial law, public law, administrative law and litigation and has a proven commitment to achieving high standards within a complex operating environment. Key Accountabilities ? Provide authoritative, timely and practical legal advice and services to CSV Corporate and the Courts Group on a range of legal issues including commercial law, public law, administrative law and statutory interpretation. ? Effectively manage complaints, disputes, claims and litigation matters. ? Perform legal research and analysis and draft cogent, accurate, and complex legal opinions. ? Ensure compliance with CSV's legislative obligations including in relation to freedom of information, privacy and integrity. ? Review and advise on policies and procedures. ? Draft, negotiate and review legal instruments across a broad range of areas including commercial contracts, property agreements and MOUs. ? Remain informed regarding contemporary developments in the law and update internal resources and templates and prepare briefing documents as required. ? Support the Manager, Legal and Governance, and General Counsel. ? Actively supervise and mentor junior lawyers in the team. Key Selection Criteria ? Proven experience providing high quality legal advice and services within a government context. ? Substantial experience in one or more of commercial law, statutory interpretation, administrative/public law and litigation. ? Experience in courts or in other areas of law relevant to CSV Corporate and the Courts Group such as employment/workplace relations/OH&S, equal opportunity/human rights or Crown land management/leasing will be highly regarded. ? Highly developed research, statutory interpretation, analytical and communication skills. ? Ability to work autonomously and make sound judgements under pressure. ? Well developed organisation and time management skills. ? Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, collaboration and teamwork including a willingness to work well with manager, peers, clients, external law firms and senior stakeholders in pursuit of shared goals. Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification from a recognised tertiary institution Victorian practising certificate (or eligibility to acquire a practising certificate)
