The Opportunity

The Laboratory & Calibration Technician position is responsible for Laboratory & Calibration activities as outlined as follows:

Laboratory: Work alongside our Senior Protein Specialist to test several dairy products to determine their protein componentry using state of the art HPLC and Mass Spectrometry. Undertake physical, microbial and chemical analysis of other dairy products using various test methods and instruments.

Calibration: Develop and implement a calibration monitoring program that ensures equipment accuracy is achieved to improve yield and reduce losses.

Prepare samples as per the standard operating procedures.
Support the development of new sample preparation techniques for new products.
Ensure all equipment used is fit for purpose and that you follow standard operating procedures.
Utilise the Laboratories HPLC, Mass Spectrometer and other equipment to determine the types and levels of protein within the dairy products.
Interpret results and provide assurance of results
Utilise various lab equipment to perform routine testing of dairy products for physical, microbial and chemical analysis.
Ensure all test results are reviewed and reported correctly.
Support the Nutritional operations team with collating and reviewing of external results.
Manage internal and external requirements to ensure the equipment is always operational. Including implementation of a PM plan to improve equipment uptime.
Development of SOP for Quality and Operational processes, also managing all SOP’s
Ensure that all testing equipment is checked to be within its tolerances daily and is providing results aligned to calibration standards across the year.
Development of validation plan for existing and new equipment.
Highlight continuous improvement opportunities across the site, ensuring alignment with plant managers on testing performance and expectations.
Initiate effective investigations when product results from a line/in line equipment are out of specification.
Report on equipment performance and develop corrective actions for improvement.
Log, track and report on product testing and trends including reporting variances to the manufacturing teams.
What you’ll bring

Working within a manufacturing business in a testing/laboratory or an operational role specialising in the manufacture of milk products and proteins.
Protein analyze working with HPLC’s and Mass Spectrometers
Physical, Microbial and Chemical analysis of milk product
Working with FT1’s, NIR, IR’s and other laboratory equipment such as thermometers, balances, pH meters and moisture-testing equipment is desirable.
Tertiary education in science is required in Food, Dairy or other related fields.
