About us

The Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery of Adelaide has been serving the spiritual and cultural aspirations of the South Australian community for the past 8 years. The organisation aims to provide spiritual support and conduct meditation training emphasizing its multidimensional benefits for mental wellbeing. The Buddhist population living in South Australia uses this monastery as a meditation and counselling centre for the benefit of the community. Also, the monastery advocates non-violence and promotes universal human values and the wellbeing of individuals facilitating a society enriched with virtue ethics.

Qualifications and experience
? Follows and teaches the tradition the tradition of Theravada Buddhism.
? Undergoes a minimum of 5 years and 9 months of structured religious administrative training to become a Buddhist monk.
? Lead a life of impeccable conduct in line with the high standard of conduct following the 227 monastic precepts including the vow of poverty.
? Fully ordained from Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastic Order.
? At least 10+ ordained years.
? Experience as a Chief Monk of Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery Branches in Australia, Sri Lanka, or other overseas countries.
? Fluent in Sinhalese.
? Verbal English language abilities are desirable.

Duties include
? Prepare and conduct daily, weekly and monthly religious activities and sermons.
? Conduct meditation training programs.
? Attend to the spiritual requirements of the congregates by way of providing blessings, counselling and education.
? Guide and teach trainee and assistant monks.
? Engage with the devotees with a focus on service.
? Provide guidance to the youth in following the Buddhist way of life.
? Advice and guide the directors of the monastery in performing their activities.
? Advice and guide welfare and community service activities organised by the monastery within South Australia.
? Perform administrative duties of the monastery including infrastructure development activities and ongoing maintenance.
? Coordinate and work jointly with branch monasteries and other temples in Australia and overseas.

This is an ongoing position and seeking a candidate who is an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia to be considered for this role.
