Skills Assessment Requirement
Unless you are exempt in very limited circumstances, you are required to have a positive Skills Assessment to apply.
You must meet the following criteria:
A bachelor degree or higher qualification. At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification
Must have successfully completed an AQF Qualification either a Certificate III in Jewellery Manufacture or formal training that is comparable
Must possess skills that are current to Australian industry standards demonstrated by 12 months full time employment or equivalent part-time in the occupation in the previous three years
If you have obtained a qualification internationally or an Australian qualification that was not through the Australian Recognition of Learning process, you are required to demonstrate 3 years full time or equivalent post-qualification experience
If you have obtained an Australian qualification issued through the Australian Recognition of Learning process, you are required to demonstrate 3 years full-time or equivalent post-qualification experience OR 6 years full-time or equivalent experience which can be either pre- or post-qualification

Description: Make and repair jewellery such as rings, brooches, chains and bracelets, craft objects out of precious metals, and cut, shape and polish rough gemstones to produce fashion and industrial jewels.
Tasks
Examining designs and specifications for jewellery and precious metal objects
Shaping moulded metal by cutting, filing, beating, turning and bending, using specialised hand and power tools
Assembling articles by soldering, screwing, riveting and otherwise joining
Securing precious stones in retaining prongs and ridges, and smoothing and checking final settings
Engraving designs on ring settings, brooches, bracelets and other articles
Repairing jewellery by soldering, replacing and rebuilding worn and broken parts
Appraising the quality and value of jewellery
Cutting and dividing stones to approximate final shape, using precision hand and power tools and jigs
Securing stones and shapes, cutting angles, smoothing and polishing
Finishing articles using files, emery paper and buffing machines
Restyling old jewellery
Skill LevelIn Australia:
You must demonstrate a skill commensurate with the following qualifications:
Australia (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
AQF Certificate III + 2 years of on-the-job training; or
AQF Certificate IV
New Zealand (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
NZQF Level 4 Qualification
Please note at least three years of relevant experience may be a substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
