The Role

Based at our Port Melbourne site, we have an excellent opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join the Chemistry team.

Reporting to the Section Manager Chemistry, the purpose of this role is to perform laboratory tests on chemicals, analyse test data and carry out technical functions in support of a wide variety of foods.

Our Port Melbourne site is not only the home of Vegemite it is also the home of other Australian iconic products, such as Bega Peanut Butter, Bega Simply Nuts, Zoosh and Cream Cheese. VEGEMITE has been proudly made in Port Melbourne, Australia since 1923.

This role would suit someone with 1-2 years’ experience in chemical food testing and has an understanding of testing techniques.  

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of chemical testing for our products, including preparation, maintenance and analysis using a range of techniques

  • Prepare and maintain lab equipment and conduct calibration verification as per the laboratory schedule

  • Implement quality improvements and provide feedback on them using internal change management systems and protocols

  • Follow Bega’s’ and laboratory specific OH&S policies, procedures and mandatory instructions.

  • Develop own capabilities in chemical food testing by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training

About you

  • Experience in chemical food testing, including benchtop gravimetric, titration and physical properties for Bega products

  • Understanding of chemical techniques, able to troubleshoot method failures and offer input to improve laboratory testing systems

  • Knowledgeable with regards to laboratory quality systems as per ISO17025

  • Taking initiative while working with the team to ensure testing and projects are done in a timely manner

  • Willing to learn and grow with the business
