The role of the Senior Solution Architect is a key role for the OneSKY project and as part of TopSKY Solution Architecture team, help to define and deliver a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Solution. This is a front facing role and requires direct engagement with our Customer and key internal senior stakeholders.
The role is responsible for defining, stabilising and maintaining the solution architecture for bids and projects for all lifecycle phases, it includes:
- Defining and proposing innovative technical solutions that meet customer requirements and are compliant with the business’ product/system technical strategy
- Analysing the architectural and technical choices to ensure the best trade-off between customer requirements, technical solutions, cost and risk.
This position is based at Melbourne, Australia at our office in the World Trade Centre.
Responsibilities:
- Lead working groups conducting technical arbitration between System of System, Subsystems and transverse teams (Safety, Security, Human Factors) and the constraints they place on the system design.
- Contact with the customer on technical issues including evolutions to the solution baseline.
- Responsible for stabilising and maintaining the solution architecture throughout its lifecycle in cooperation with the SEMs and PDA.
- Ensure the solution architecture is optimised to address the real need through:
- Bringing to the foreground the key architectural drivers
- Exploring the solution space to define a set of alternate candidate architectural concepts and perform related trade-offs ensuring all design alternatives are recorded and decisions justified
- Perform early validation of the architecture including modelling and proof of concept activities to de-risk
- Develop Architectural Viewpoints to:
- Define the system breakdown
- Lead the interface definition and arbitrate technically between the various contributors (whether internal or external)
- Describe the system behaviour through functional flows and identifying dependencies between system components
- Specify Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs) and support their validation throughout the lifecycle of the project
- Document architecture in required artefacts (E.g. Product Breakdown Structure and System of System Design Documentation).
- Support the Project Design Authority (PDA) and the Systems Engineering Manager (SEM) in the approval of the main engineering reviews and deliverables.
- Review key SoS solution design including Infrastructure, Platform, Safety, Security and Human Factors artefacts ensuring that the constraints imposed by the system requirements on the design are understood and met.
- Ensure and demonstrate that the defined architecture meets the requirements taking into consideration:
- Performance
- Safety
- Security
- Human Factors
- ILS
- Contractually applicable legislation, rules and regulations including Environmental/HSE requirements and standards.
- Contribute to the development of Architecture Policies, Processes and Procedures to ensure best practice.
- Provide mentoring and support to all personnel involved in architecture activities.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in similar positions on projects delivering complex software-centric real-time systems.
- Experience in the ATM Domain and Air Traffic Management standards eg. ICAO, Eurocontrol, AID.
- Demonstrated experience in the design of secure solution architectures in line with security standards and policies eg. ISM
- Experience with collective decisions and conflict resolutions
- Capability to manage various stakeholders having different objectives
- Proven capability to work in a multi-cultural environment and with variety of international customers.
- Aptitude to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary integrated team environment
- A positive attitude combined with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.
- Sound judgement and independent decision-making capability where necessary
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
