POSITION
Multiple full-time positions for a Cook are available in Cairns City QLD 4870.
SKILLS
The role requires you to hold at least a relevant AQF (or equivalent) Cert IV and 1 year of relevant fulltime work experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to chefs’ specifications and recipes. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of food handling procedures, be able to set up daily mise-en-place and ensure the attractive display of food items. Additionally, the Cook will assist in receiving food checks and event orders, maintaining cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen and monitoring food quality and safety standards. Working under the guidance of the Chef, you will ensure that our restaurant can serve quality meals in an efficient and timely manner to our customers. This position requires a passion for cooking, attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen setting.
TASKS
As a cook you will undertake the following duties:
• Know and adhere to proper handling procedures for food, equipment, and utensils.
• Arrange the purchase of goods and supplies.
• Prepare food according to chef’s specifications and recipes.
• Set up daily mise-en-place for efficient kitchen operations.
• Ensure attractive display of food items, showpieces etc. on display counters buffets or where required.
• May assist in planning menus and estimating food requirements.
• Receive food checks, event orders and prepare them as required.
• Clean and maintain working space, store, equipment and utensils.
• Check the quality of the sauces, meats, fish, vegetables, fruits and all pre-cooked and raw items to ensure quality and prevent spoilage giving special attention to all meats and seafood items.
• Check mise-en-place in all areas of the kitchen and ensure mise-en-place is ready 30 minutes before a meal period.
• Check kitchen before service begins, ensuring everything neat and tidy.
• Regulate temperatures of ovens grills and other cooking equipment.
• Season food during cooking.
• Supervise and participate in the meal service.
• Train other kitchen staff and apprentices as needed.
• Follow and enforce the hygiene and safety standards set by the public Health Department and the restaurant.
• Know the restaurant fire and safety procedures and operations of the kitchen.
• Co-operate and delegate work in a fair and efficient manner.
SALARY
An annual salary of $60,000 – $70,000 based on experience.
