Cairns Marine supplies marine life for display in aquaria. Our company is a collector and wholesale supplier to domestic retail outlets and international wholesale distributors, and we collect and supply marine life direct to public aquaria worldwide and home hobbyists in our local community.
We operate commercial fishery licenses in the Queensland, Northern Territory and Commonwealth jurisdictions. Marinelife is brought ashore to a wholesale facility in Cairns or Darwin for distribution to the market.
The primary purpose of this position is to dive for fish from Cairns Marine’s commercial vessels. As the role is full-time, a secondary purpose is to undertake duties at the facility when not at sea. It is expected that this secondary role will be undertaken for no more than six weeks per year.
Key Duties
Collect fish whilst diving using a surface air supply
Collect live rock and invertebrates whilst snorkelling or wading
Collect fish using a barrier net and herding device
Process catch aboard the vessel, including computer data entry
Assist in the preparation and operation of the vessel as directed by the skipper, including
general maintenance, provisioning, equipment repairs etc
Assist in the wholesale facility when not at sea at the direction of the facility manager
Other duties as required
Skills and Qualifications requirements
At least three years of relevant experience collecting fish by hand
At least three years of experience keeping healthy and vibrant captive marine life
Ability to spend extended periods at sea
Rescue Diver certificate
Elements of Shipboard Safety certificate (within first six months)
First Aid certificate (within first six months)
Oxygen Resuscitation certificate (within first six months)
Salary: $70,000 per annum
