We are seeking a Diesel Fitter to join our team in Queanbeyan. As a Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing hire equipment, ensuring maximum reliability and functionality. The ideal candidate will have a background in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues in machinery and trucks. Good eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and excellent problem-solving abilities are essential. Strong communication skills are also crucial for providing advice to customers.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect equipment, mechanical, and electrical components to accurately diagnose issues.
- Inspect vehicle computers and electronic systems to repair, maintain, and upgrade.
- Conduct routine maintenance work, such as replacing fluids and lubricating parts, to enhance vehicle functionality and longevity.
- Schedule future maintenance sessions and provide advice to operators on proper machine use.
- Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts, addressing issues like leaks.
- Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for repair or maintenance jobs.
- Keep detailed logs on work performed and identified issues.
- Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
Requirements and Skills:
- Proven experience as a diesel mechanic / fitter.
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of machines.
- Experience working on trucks, semi trailers, earth moving machinery & attachments.
- Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods.
- Ability to handle various tools (e.g., pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g., lift).
- Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protection against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals, etc.
- Excellent physical condition.
- High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.
- Heavy vehicle license (HR, HC preferred)
- Non-smoker/vaper (we have a 100% smoke free workplace)
- All types of welding, oxy ^ acetylene, TIG & MIG preferred.
