About the role
We are seeking an MED 2 or MED 3-qualified Engineer with aspirations to become a Vessel Master, to join us in a permanent position. Initially joining in a part-time capacity, we will support this individual to complete their Master <24m qualification throughout the 2024 year, to set you up for a full-time, permanent Vessel Master position with Darwin Harbour Cruises.
During our season which runs from February to December, this role will be based at Stokes Hill Wharf on a rotating roster. During the off-season, this role can enjoy time off or be considered to gain further experience at one of our other Journey Beyond businesses across Australia.
Reporting to the Vessel Master, this position assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the Charles Darwin vessel, including:
- Performing routine vessel maintenance and repairs to ensure continuous and reliable operation
- Conducting inspections, troubleshooting issues, and diagnosing any problems that may arise in vessel mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Assisting in major repairs and overhauls, collaborating with contractors and suppliers as necessary
- Playing an active role in implementing preventative maintenance programs to maximise vessel performance and minimise downtime
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities through a digital asset management system, including logs, reports and documentation of all work performed
- Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards and procedures governing marine maintenance and safety, in addition to adherence with Company SOPs and operational procedures
- Working as part of a team, the Engineer also supports with hospitality duties to support the front of house team where required.
About you
The ideal candidate will have an eye for detail and take pride in your work. You are a team player, while also able to work autonomously using your initiative and demonstrated problem solving skills. You will have a proactive and solutions focused approach with a ‘can-do’ attitude to achieve the best outcome for business operations.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- An AMSA-issued MED 3 minimum (MED 2 advantageous)
- Experience as a Marine Engineer preferably in the marine tourism industry
- A valid First Aid & CPR certificate, or willingness to obtain
- A valid RSA certificate, or willingness to obtain
