This exciting role is part of the Building Capabilities Program, funded by the Department of Social Services. This program aims to work in partnership with families and early education and care settings to maximise child and parent outcomes through the facilitation of communication skills, social development and play.

You will support educators and parent/carers to increase their capacity and capability to tailor play based strategies to the child's needs and skill level, using their motivators and interests to guide play interactions. You will build the capacity of educators and parent/carers so that skills learnt can be generalised across multiple settings so that a child’s developmental needs can have a greater chance to be met. Additionally, as the capacity of educators and parent/carers is built through the program, the hope is that these skills can then be used in the future to assist other children develop their social and communication skills, through a play-based format.

You will support educators and parent/carers with the following:

  • Facilitating early play skills development.
  • Supporting parent/child interactions and relationships.
  • Understanding typical child development.
  • Building capacity and capability to enable parents to make decisions, refer or engage with external services.
  • Building capacity and capability in educators to engage in child-led play and ensure children with development delays receive optimal support and learning opportunities in their early education setting.
