The Opportunity
Come and discover the opportunity to join our Fielders business as a Maintenance Engineer in our Wangara site. With a proud history starting in Adelaide, today Fielders manufactures and markets steel building products across Australia. We deliver customer-inspired outcomes that support architects, engineers, builders, installers and property owners in creating their vision.
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will oversee and maintain our manufacturing equipment, machinery and facilities to guarantee their seamless operation. You will conduct thorough assessments, implement necessary repairs and execute preventive maintenance tasks. Your responsibilities extend to troubleshooting complex issues, utilising your engineering expertise to minimise downtime and optimise production efficiency.
Working Monday to Friday, this role will require the flexibility to support overlapping both day (5am – 1pm) and afternoon shifts (1pm – 9pm), along with additional work hours to ensure continuous production. Working predominantly during the day shift, you will lead a team of maintenance fitters, electricians and external contractors. This position offers a 38-hour work week, ensuring a balanced and productive work environment.

What Will You Do?
While leading your team and having a direct impact on the delivery performance of BlueScope, you will be the point of contact for equipment and maintenance. Your responsibilities will include:
- isolating equipment and performing corrective maintenance on the machines
- diagnosing equipment malfunctions and executing repairs or adjustments as needed
- responding to and resolving machine breakdowns with a sense of urgency
- planning and coordinating shutdowns for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance
- continually seeking opportunities to improve our maintenance strategies
- provide coaching and mentoring to direct reports and team members
- championing a safety culture of accountability by setting clear expectations, defining roles and responsibilities and holding team members to high standards.
More About You
As a highly motivated individual, you’ll thrive in taking ownership of your work and making significant contributions to the larger team. You will have:
- in-depth knowledge and understanding of machinery, with a focus on mechanical and industrial machines, particularly in roll former machines
- demonstrated expertise in the repair and maintenance of manufacturing equipment including machine rebuilds and improvements
- exposure to maintenance management systems and computer skills
- proficiency in cost management to ensure optimal value for machine repairs
- experience in dealing with vendors and suppliers
- good communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration within the team and with external stakeholders
- a commitment to your own safety and wellbeing and care for others.
