Financial Controller

Key responsibilities:

• Directly accountable for the compilation of the annual budgets and monthly forecasting, ensuring that all Department Managers have complete and equal input. If HOD’s or GM’s provide forecast figures that look incorrect, it is an expectation that the Financial Controller questions and clarifies any discrepancies. Forecast accuracy should be within 5% of actual turnover result.

• Directly accountable for all financial information sent to the General Manager, Accor and Owners in regards to accuracy and detail.

• Providing support to your General Manager by demonstrating a solid understanding of the month’s results, and the future strategy of the business. Develop an open and robust relationship with your General Manager. The Financial Controller in most cases is second in charge of the hotel; therefore communication should be transparent and ongoing.

• As a senior member of staff, you are also an Ambassador for Accor; representing Accor to all hotel stakeholders including the Owner’s or their designated Representative. All forms of communication at all times must be clear, edited and professional. • Ensure Balance Sheet reconciliations are completed and signed off by your General Manager on a monthly basis. This should be by the 10th of each month.

• Ensure you are up to date with relevant legislation with regards to payroll, tax and compliance. Actively seek this information out, research and advise the relevant managers in the hotel.

• Develop and monitor all financial systems for the Hotel with a view to improve and streamline procedures.

• Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the Management Agreement; ensuring all of Accor’s obligations are adhered to and fulfilled in accordance to the agreed terms. In particular, fee calculations, limitations of authority and reporting time frames/format

. • Ensure that policies and procedures set by Accor are implemented and internal controls are operating effectively at all times. Self Assessments are completed twice a year and a full check of controls should be carried out at this time to ensure compliance. Self assessment score and resulting official internal audit score should be within 5%.

• Responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate completion of all weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Demonstrate initiative by generating new reports specific to adding value to your business.

• Engage with those outside of your department. Promote your availability to support Department Managers to develop effective measures to enhance their department’s profitability. Organise and present regular Finance training sessions tailored towards the needs of your hotel and its staff.

• Attend and actively participate in all meetings that involve strategy and future planning. The Financial Controller’s role is to question the ideas, challenge the processes to ensure implementation is effective, and if necessary question the status quo.
