What Will You Do?
As a Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in focusing on the BlueScope business reporting and analytics initiatives. This role is critical to building the data assets that result in driving business value from our data and enabling data-driven decision making. Be part of a collaborative team supporting our Australian Steel Products business by turning data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions. The Data Engineer is responsible for building, managing and optimising data pipelines and then moving these data pipelines into production for key data and analytics consumers.
This role requires a combination of business focus, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and some programming knowledge to leverage machine learning and other data-driven techniques.
Each day you will play an integral part in lifting the data maturity and capability of the organisation by:
- Designing, creating and maintaining secure data pipelines and data assets with end-to-end development and implementation of data collection, consolidation and modelling activities
- Analysis of business requirements with the view to deliver outcomes through data mining and data wrangling
- Developing managed data pipelines through a series of zones or stages within a data lake
- Implementing and managing data security protocols, ensuring data assets are not accessed or corrupted by unauthorised users
- Use innovative and modern tools, techniques and architectures to partially or completely automate the data preparation and integration tasks within data asset pipelines
- Working with various stakeholders including external service providers
More About You
We don’t expect you to know our industry or our business, we have an internal network to support your learning that, it’s your knowledge of Data Engineering that we would like to support and develop. We are looking for team player with: -
- A recognized degree in Engineering, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field
- The ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A combination of IT skills, data governance skills, and analytics skills
- Significant work experience in data management disciplines including data integration, modeling, optimisation and data quality
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of a departmental and/or multi-departmental data management and analytics initiative
- Solid understanding of Agile project delivery methods
- Experience working with Azure PaaS services and DevOps
- Experience with visualisation tools such as Power BI and Cognos
