Electrical Instrumentation Engineer

Overview of Position

Responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and improvements of a wide range of electrical systems, equipment and instruments within the plant and managing the integrity of the Instrument, PCS, HMI, and PLC control systems.

Key Accountabilities

? Manage the plant instrument systems, including hardware, software, and communication systems.
? Develop and implement electrical systems and make adjustments or improvements to electrical systems/instruments and control equipment/system.
? Prepare, review and analyze technical documents, schematics and drawings of electrical systems, equipment and instruments.
? Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all instruments.
? Carry out modifications to instrument hardware, programs and software.
? Carry out any design as required to suit plant operating modifications or projects.
? Maintain the integrity and reliability of the plant control systems by investigating the root cause equipment faults, and developing appropriate remedial action.
? Maintain documentation for the plant instrument systems, including hardcopies of documents and drawings required to assist other electrical team members to fault-find the Instrument systems.
? Maintain the plant instrument list, including instrument data sheets, calibration procedures, maintenance procedures and schedule.
? Assist field staff in fault finding, as required.
? Participate in capital and maintenance budget planning, develop capital and maintenance recommendations.
? Liaise with equipment and services suppliers to ensure value for SMC.
? Update hazardous area dossiers, and carrying out the detailed inspection.
? Develop maintenance manuals for electrical equipment, including instruments and control systems.
? Fulfill RO plant electrical maintenance as area responsible engineer, including maintenance, modifications, installation, drawings, manuals, procedures, and spare parts.
? Overseeing the installation of electrical systems, equipment and instruments.


Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Legal Compliance

? Provide and maintain a work environment that promotes workplace health and safety and good environmental practice.

? This includes but is not limited to:

- Relevant legislation including the Work Health & Safety Act, Environmental Protection Act and Sun Metals’ Environmental Authority complied with;
- Systems of work where risks have been evaluated and addressed as appropriate are in order;
- Plant and equipment (including monitoring equipment) maintained fit for purpose;
- Hazardous substances and dangerous goods safely used, handled, stored, transported and risk assessed;
- Employees consulted with, informed, trained and supervised relative to their role and any safety and environmental exposures; and
- Timely action taken on all hazards and incidents to minimise harm, loss or damage, providing prompt reporting, timely investigation and corrective action with effective controls addressing root causes.


Qualifications

? Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
? Hazardous area qualification


Knowledge

? High level knowledge of instrument and control system management experience in heavy industry.
? High level knowledge of:
? 4-20mA signalling, earthing, Hart communications, etc
? Analytical instruments – Gas, pH, conductivity, ORP, etc
? PLC programming – Schneider, Rockwell
? HMI programming – Citect


Skills

? Able to interpret electrical drawings.
? Sound computing skills and use of MS Office.
? Effective written and verbal communication skills.
? Ability to manage small teams in project work.
? Ability to manage numerous projects.
? Ability to investigate major plant failures and their causes.
? An analytical and logical mind.
? Ability to work autonomously and manage project improvements to meet deadlines.


Experience

? Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical systems including:-
? Instrumentation
? PLC’s, VSD’s, etc
? Control system theory, engineering, and maintenance
? HMI, communications, etc
? Australian and international Standards, and Regulatory requirements
? Faultfinding and Root cause analysis or equivalent tools
