Painter Apprentice (Surface Preparation & Coating Certificate) Arex Pty Ltd is an established high-quality Engineering/Design/Manufacturing Company in NSW, working in Defence, Rail & Mining. Arex Pty Ltd have exciting expansion plans with opportunities for the future. We are currently located in Picton NSW – with plans to re-locate to the Wollongong area in 2024. Arex is offering a Traineeship as a Surface Preparation & Coating Operator @Wollongong TAFE to learn & work on a variety of interesting projects and assist with various jobs around the business. Collaborating with Engineers, Welders, and Machinists. What you will learn: Use abrasive blasting techniques Prepare surfaces (typically metal) Apply various protective coating application operations to technical specifications. Use safe and environmentally sustainable work practices. Experience working in a workshop environment on tasks such as abrasive blasting, surface preparation and coating application. Practice following highly detailed specifications to meet Australian Standards A Trade-level qualification Duties include - but not limited to: Prepare components for the paint process, including washing, sanding, wet or dry media stripping, and masking. Mix and Prime as per manufacturer/customer instructions. Use of Industrial coatings, two pack paint and spray-painting methods. Ensuring compliance with safety standards & regulations while operating paining and blasting equipment Perform quality inspections after paint completion. Use comparison & basic measuring devices. Use of Hand Tools Complete Paint Record sheets Attend TAFE in Wollongong What you will bring to the role: Completed at least Year 10 at High School Good English, mathematics & communication skills The ability to work as part of a team. Strong spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and aptitude for practical skills The ability to work in confined spaces and at heights if required.
