About the Role
A newly created position within the School of Geography, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences, in collaboration with the Melbourne Energy Institute, is now available for an outstanding academic with a focus on the science of renewable energy resources and the energy transition. The ideal candidate should possess disciplinary or multi-disciplinary expertise that contributes to one of more of the disciplines of geography, earth science, or atmospheric science.

Your research expertise may encompass various aspects, including but not limited to power sources (such as wind, solar, or hydro), potential forecasting applications, energy systems, source or system hazards, or other quantitative areas relevant to advancing Australia's shift towards a clean energy future.

The successful candidate will be appointed at either Academic Level B or Level C based upon experience and achievement as determined by the Selection Committee. 

Your responsibilities will include:

Conducting a program of research that contributes to one or more of the disciplines of geography, earth science, or atmospheric science
Publishing research findings in international refereed journals and present results at seminars, conferences, and meetings
Conducting research that contributes to the School’s strategic research priorities, including the energy transition
Engaging with the larger community via interactions with government, industry, the media, public lectures, and/or outreach activities
Who We Are Looking For
Our ideal candidate demonstrates expertise and research interests in one of the disciplines of geography, earth science, and atmospheric sciences, with a demonstrated, or emerging, capacity to establish collaborations and engage with a broad range of researchers nationally and internationally. You will have excellent organisational skills including the ability to project manage, meet deadlines and work autonomously under limited supervision.

You have the capacity to participate in joint applications and programs for funding, or at Level C, demonstrate the ability to lead and attract external research funding from national competitive research bodies or other sources.

You will also have:

A PhD in geography, earth science, atmospheric science, or a closely related discipline
Expertise and research interests in the science of renewable energy and the energy transition, this may include sources of renewable power (e.g., wind, solar, or hydro), potential forecasting applications, energy systems, source or system hazards, or other quantitative areas of relevance to the transition to a clean energy future
An established (level C), or emerging (level B), track record of publications on topics relevant to this position in leading international journals or other high-quality publications, relative to career opportunity
Evidence of the ability to teach broadly into an undergraduate program in geography, earth science, or atmospheric science, as well as multi-disciplinary subjects, and graduate courses focused on their area of expertise.
