In this role, you will be an integral part of the exploration team identifying targets and conducting rigorous geologic assessments of exploration potential. You will be required to undertake field work and to work closely with joint venture partners and external geological and geophysical consultants. In this role you will have scope to be creative, contribute and grow professionally.
You will have previous RC, air-core and/or diamond drilling experience and will be actively involved in the planning and supervision of exploration programs. This role will be tailored to the successful candidate and will offer opportunities to further develop your exploration and geological skills.
The position will be based in Orange, NSW (no applications requiring a FIFO or DIDO roster will be considered). All applicants must be based in Australia and have the right to be legally employed in Australia.
Responsibilities
The Project Geologist will:
• Compile and evaluate the exploration potential of various regional and prospect scale datasets
• Conduct field reconnaissance studies, including mapping and sampling
• Carry out exploration programs to evaluate resources by sampling and examining drill core, drill cuttings and rock samples using a variety of methods including optical, chemical, electronic and mechanical techniques
• Conduct assessments and/or interpretation of surface and airborne geophysical datasets, including magnetic, radiometric, gravity and electromagnetic data
• Perform a range of geological analyses, including geological logging, mapping and interpretation
• Work collaboratively with the other Helix team members
• Contribute to the design, budgeting, permitting of field programs
• Manage field programs, including supervision of drilling and geophysical contractors
Required skills and experience
• Relevant tertiary degree in geology or geoscience
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in exploration geology or economic geology, including at least 2 years of experience with drilling-related activities (RC and diamond)
• Proficiency with QGIS, Leapfrog, ioGAS and MX Deposit
• Intellectual curiosity
• An understanding of geologic fundamentals, ore systems, and mineral exploration
• Unencumbered “C” Class driving licence for manual vehicles
• Must reside in Orange NSW, or willing to relocate
It is preferred but not required to have:
• 4WD experience
• Senior first aid certificate
