The Opportunity Combine the advantages of ocean-side lifestyle in a role working with leading-edge technology  Leverage your electronics background to make a difference in radio astronomy and spacecraft tracking  Join CSIRO's Space and Astronomy business unit and contribute to world-class initiatives We're recruiting Technicians at our Space and Astronomy business unit, which manages CSIRO’s world-class facilities for radio astronomy and spacecraft tracking.  The next-generation Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP), a world-class radio telescope, is operated at Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, CSIRO’s Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory, in Western Australia. ASKAP is producing high impact science results, including discovering new galaxies with its new depths of sensitivity. The position We are seeking an Electronics Technician to be part of the support team for ASKAP Operations. You will work under broad supervision and guidance to provide technical support of complex digital, analogue and radio frequency electronics systems, including PAF receivers, signal processing, control, monitoring, and timing systems. The role includes participating in planning for systems maintenance activities and fault diagnosis. You will be part of our engineering team located on our Geraldton site, but working at times within the broader telescope technical team to maintain operational support. Please note: Frequent travel to the Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, CSIRO’s Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (approx. 350km northeast of Geraldton) will be required. Visits will be typically five days in duration and require overnight stays at the Boolardy accommodation facility. Your duties will include: Monitoring system performance and maintaining the Observatory electronics systems. Applying your knowledge and experience, working under direction, to undertake fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance on a diverse range of specialised analogue and digital electronic equipment, sharing your knowledge and skills with other staff.  Undertaking repairs to electronic equipment and modules down to component level. Actively contributing to written and online documentation associated with equipment repair and maintenance, including management of system drawings and schematics, and configuration management. Travelling occasionally to other ATNF sites, as required, to assist with installation and maintenance of electronics systems.   Travelling frequently to the site of the ASKAP radio telescope, some 350km northeast of Geraldton.
