Maternity Services – Registered Midwife

Western Health

Western Health company logo
Come and join our friendly, multi-disciplinary collaborative team to see your midwifery passion reignited, supported and encouraged!

Western Health is seeking passionate Midwives to join the dynamic Maternity Services team at Joan Kirner Women's & Children's (JKWC). Known for its strong midwifery culture and supportive environment, you will have the opportunity to flex your midwifery skills whilst working across the spectrum of maternity care.

Our dedicated Women’s and Children’s tertiary-level facility stands 8 floors tall, proudly and passionately serving families of Melbourne’s western suburbs with quality and evidence-based care. The state-of-the-art facility with 26 large spacious birthing rooms with four having luxurious birthing pools makes women comfortable, secure and safe throughout their maternity experience.

Midwives are actively encouraged to up-skill, develop their critical thinking, take leadership roles and lead care planning with an emphasis on person-centred care. As a Registered Midwife (or Nurse/Midwife) you have the opportunity to work on rotation (or solely) across areas such as:

Antenatal Clinic
Maternity Assessment Centre (MAC)
Birthing Suite & High Care Unit (HCU)
Postnatal Maternity Wards
Domiciliary team
Incorporating elements of each department is our well-established continuity of care model- ‘Midwifery Group Practice’ (MGP). Catering for approximately 14% of all birthing families at JKWCH, our MGP is the largest in Victoria.

Having recently expanded our service, we are now able to offer permanent, temporary and casual employment working in low-risk, all-risk or Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander (Galinjera) teams with the option of providing homebirth services.

Selection Criteria

Current certification through AHPRA as a “Registered Midwife”
Passionate about woman-centred care, advocacy and education
Possess excellent clinical skills, with sound ‘evidence based’ judgement
Demonstrated ability to practice collaboratively as part of a broader multidisciplinary team.
Experience and desire in undertaking professional development activities to maintain and enhance nursing / midwifery expertise.
$67,527.20 - $95,378.640 based on Experience per Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Health Sector) (single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2020-2024.
