We are looking for experienced, skilled Truck Drivers Operators for full time roles working from our depots in Mackay and Townsville.
Our depots located at Paget in Mackay and Mount Louisa in Townsville are specifically seeking Drivers with either a Heavy Rigid (HR) or Medium Rigid (MR) truck driving licence together with the required skills and experience.

About the role
In your capacity as Driver you will be required to undertake deliveries and pickups from the metropolitan area of Mackay or Cairns.
Working under general direction, the Driver is to facilitate the safe and efficient pick-up and delivery, loading and unloading of all consignments. Where required, the Driver will support other branch and logistics functions to ensure optimal operation of the broader Northline business.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure all inbound/outbound freight is:
• Compliant with Chain of Responsibility including appropriate load restraint.
• Blended effectively to maximise individual load revenue.
• Checked on truck against paperwork to ensure it matches.
• Compliant with legislative requirements with regards to load mass.
• Liaise with Fleet Controller as to what way and in what order deliveries and pickups are to be undertaken.
• Maintain optimum communication with Fleet Controller and / or Operations Manager regarding client feedback.
• Maintain radio or telephone contact with Fleet Controller or supervisor to receive instructions or be dispatched to new location.
• Ensure that all pick-ups must be accompanied by a consignment note and Check-Weigh-Cubed (CWC).
• Contact Fleet Controller/Supervisor for instructions when freight is presented without a Connote.
• Inform the Fleet Controller of your destination and last drop, radioing in from your clear points prior to returning.
• Assist in the safe and efficient loading and unloading of trucks, when required.
• Maintain truck log according to state, federal and Northline regulations.
• Complete Driver Daily Run sheet completely and accurately each day, including recording freight / cargo information, distance travelled, fuel consumption and other information.
• Maintain fleet management schedules through cleaning, inspecting, and servicing vehicle as required by Northline.
• Oversee all functions of vehicles, such as condition of equipment, loading and unloading, and safety and security of freight.
• Ensure special permits and other documents required are held when transporting cargo on national routes.
• Where in accepted quantities or where licenced, transport hazardous products or dangerous goods.
• Drive as part of a team convoy where required.
• Drive special purpose trucks when required.
• Attend depot meetings when required.
• Demonstrate flexibility in working hours.
• Ensure all incidents of personal injury, damages, shortages, split consignments etc are reported to the Supervisor in a timely manner.
• Any other reasonable tasks or projects as requested by your manager.
• Ensure the yard is kept organised and tidy.
• Work toward a target of zero near miss incidents or accidents.
• Build and maintain professional working relationships with all levels of the organisation.
• Contribute to shared goals and work effectively as part of a team.
• Review processes and procedures and recommend and implement improvement initiatives.
• Any other reasonable tasks or projects as requested by your manager.
Key Competencies & Technical Requirements specific to your role
• Current and valid Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid Licence essential.
• Ability, competency and experience to operate trucks you are licenced to drive in a safe and responsible manner.
• Commitment to Health, Safety & Environment practices.
• Integrity, trustworthiness, professionalism and a customer centric approach to problem solving.
• Suitable physical ability to handle repetitive lifting (manual handling) of freight up to 20kgs.
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Previous experience working towards targets and deadlines.
• Good time management skills coupled with resilience and adaptability.
• Proven creative ability to visualise and plan the road trip.
• Ability to work autonomously and unsupervised coupled with a proactive attitude.
• Good language, literacy and numeracy skills.
