MISSION | WHY WE NEED YOU
Smile Partners is a leading orthodontic group, founded by a team of specialist orthodontists and business professionals. It’s purpose is to provide business and management support to orthodontists and their practices that enables doctors to focus on their area of expertise – treating patients – while we focus on the business management. We are on a mission to enable specialist orthodontists and practices to succeed and provide globally leading, specialist orthodontic care and outstanding patient experiences.
We are currently undergoing a journey of significant growth – in partnership with a long-term growth equity firm – and are scaling up our capabilities including our financial and commercial analytics capabilities.
To drive the next and ongoing stages of our growth plan we are creating a new role for a Commercial Analyst to work closely with the GM of Finance, with exposure to the Founder/CEO and Board, with a focus on driving the group’s commercial decisions and regular M&A activity.
Role Overview:
As a Commercial Analyst, you will report directly to the GM of Finance and play a critical role driving the group’s commercial decisions and support the group’s M&A activity. The ultimate goal is to help facilitate the ambitious growth aspirations Smile Partners has, through both improving capabilities around M&A as well as driving the organic growth of current practice earnings through more insightful data and analytics.
You will have true value, accountability and opportunity to work with the GM of Finance, the CEO and our growth equity partner to develop, decide, communicate and drive the implementation of business opportunities and strategies to help achieve Smile's ambitious objectives.
Success in your first 12 months will be aligned with the following key performance objectives:
Objective #1: Merger & Acquisition support
Assisting with analysis and due diligence for proposed acquisitions, noting the group’s growth plans include numerous acquisitions a year. Helping forecast what the impact of M&A will be on the group’s performance and banking obligations. Post acquisition, retrospective reviews of investment performance against expectations and assessing and implementing any learnings to future transactions.
Objective #2: Real-time performance management analysis
Furthering the recent and ongoing Data & Analytics improvement drive the group is undertaking, assist with real-time PowerBI analysis of how the group’s practices are performing based on KPIs. This will include involvement upfront with the design of intuitive PowerBI dashboards that provide actionable insights. Longer term, the aim will be for you own and continuously improve these reports, working alongside the operational teams to follow through the associated performance improvement actions.
Objective #3: Trusted financial & commercial advisor to the commercial team and practices
Using the insights gained from objective 2, support the Regional Managers and commercial team to materially improve the level of insights the orthodontists and senior staff get at a practice level, both financial and operational, to further cement the indispensability of the Smile Partners offering to orthodontists. Build a trusted relationship with both the commercial teams and eventually the practices to be their source of insightful data.
Objective #4: Forecast modelling
Assisting with look forward 3-way forecasting and annual budgeting, updates to these forecasts where applicable, and interactions with sponsors and financiers in relation to this forecasting.
Objective #5: Process improvement
Take a leading role in designing, improving and automating business and finance processes. This will include the ability to be both creative and forward thinking around the use of latest technologies as part of pitching approaches that are value accretive to Smile Partners.
Objective #6: Pricing, marketing and other commercial support
Modelling and considering the impacts of any key commercial decisions (including pricing changes). Working with the GM of Finance and operational team on marketing spend (including Cost Per Acquisition analysis) and monitoring the success of different marketing approaches.
Objective #7: Cost analysis and optimisation (including Contract and Supplier negotiations)
Assisting in analysing group costs and any areas for improvement. Capitalising on the recent improvements to systems around tracking of purchasing and levels of inventory, assisting with implementing efficiencies to the approach with suppliers, including negotiations around centralised supplier contracts.
Objective #8: Monthly reporting to the Board
Assisting the GM of Finance with monthly reporting to the Board on performance (both financial and KPIs) as well as ad-hoc reporting to the Board on key commercial workstreams.
COMPETENCIES | WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
In order to set you up for success and see you thrive in this role we are looking for you to have strengths in the below areas of competency:
Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in both Excel Modelling and Power BI or similar business intelligence tools is crucial. This includes data modelling, data visualization, creating interactive dashboards, and report development. Understanding of data integration, transformation, and cleansing techniques is also important.
Analytical Thinking: The ability to analyze complex data sets, identify patterns, and derive meaningful insights is important. Strong analytical skills, including data interpretation and effective visualisations, problem-solving, and attention to detail, are necessary to deliver accurate and actionable reports.
Business Acumen: A solid understanding of business operations, finance (including financial statements and forecasts), and (over time) commercial and sales processes is important. The ability to see the “bigger picture” but also retain strong attention to detail for analytical tasks.
Communication, Relationships and Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, such as the CEO, GM of Finance, orthodontists, practice managers, and the remainder of the head office team will be key to being able to deliver effectively. Strong written skills to compliment your analysis and assist with distilling complex findings into understandable and actionable outcomes (including into Board reports) is important.
If joining Smile Partners as our Commercial Analyst represents an exciting and compelling career move for you, we can promise a few things. This is an exciting time to join the business as we continue to experience and invest in high growth and the challenges, opportunities and rewards that come with it. You will be working with a passionate team and leadership with a growth mindset and collaborative culture, and where your ideas and efforts are valued by your peers and leaders.
