The Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be based in the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, ANU, and will contribute to research in computational astrophysics and galaxy evolution to learn about the most distant galaxies through studying their emission line spectra. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work within the research groups of Dr Kathryn Grasha and Professor Stuart Wyithe, and will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with the groups of Professor Lisa Kewley (Harvard CfA) and Tiziana Di Matteo (Carnegie Mellon), as well as the FRESCO survey team led by Professor Pascal Oesch (Geneva Observatory).

The Person

We are looking for an early career researcher with a PhD (or awarding of a PhD within 6 months of appointment) in the field of computation astrophysics and galaxy formation.

Past experience with skills in galaxy formation hydrosimulations is highly desirable.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be using the ASTRID hydrodynamic simulation to model predictions for high redshift galaxies to be incorporated into 3-D photoionisation calculations. The resulting emission line galaxy population predictions will be used to interpret the complete sample of spectra for early star-forming emission line galaxies across cosmic history obtained as part of the JWST FRESCO observing program, of which the postdoctoral fellow will be involved in the collaboration.
