Role Purpose  

To liaise closely with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver relevant Functional Safety approvals and certification for a rapidly growing innovation business.                                                                                  

Responsibilities:

The Functional Safety Engineer will, amongst other duties as required:

  • Perform safety activities according to ISO26262, part 3, 4 and 5.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations, such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508
  • Perform hazard and risk analysis, such as Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), to identify potential failure modes and their consequences.
  • Develop and document the overall functional safety concept and derive Functional Safety Requirements (FSR).
  • Define and document safety requirements for systems, subsystems, and components. This includes safety goals, safety functions, and performance metrics.
  • Plan and execute safety validation activities, such as fault injection tests, to demonstrate that the system or product meets the safety requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive safety documentation, including safety manuals, case reports, and safety assessment reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system engineers, software developers, hardware engineers, and testing teams, to ensure that safety considerations are integrated into all aspects of the project.
  • Manage and assess changes to the system or product to ensure that safety is not compromised during the development process.
  • Follow the organisational processes.

  • Formal qualifications, ideally at master’s level in computer science.
  • 3+ years of experience working with the safety of autonomous vehicles and functions.
  • At least two years of experience with functional safety activities, including SW-related safety activities as per ISO 26262 or IEC 61508
  • Demonstrated experience in Functional Safety Activities, including Item Definition, HARA, HAZOP, Safety Goals, Safety Analysis-FTA, FSR, FMEA and DFA.
  • Comprehensive experience with Python.
  • Experience with automating the functional safety activities like HARA as per ISO 26262
  • Skilled in architecture tools such as IBM Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect tools.
  • Familiarity with safety-related tools and software, such as fault tree and FMEA software tools.
  • Trained in ISO 26262
  • Experience in creating FSC and TSC for BMS or HV energy management system.
  • Extensive involvement in performing FMEA at CCU level and knowledge of CCU components.
  • Ability to analyse use case specification and user requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with scenario creation for safety analysis.
  • Considerable hands-on experience with risk analysis of safety critical scenarios
  • In-depth knowledge of electric and autonomous vehicle functions.
  • Experience with requirement tools Polarion and Medini
  • Understanding of, and the ability to analyse how complex automotive software systems work.
  • Exposure to automotive or commercial vehicle networks, such as CAN, is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, communication (both written and verbal) and organisation skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules.
  • Capable of working independently in an organised and structured fashion
  • Hands on experience with developing the test cases for system validation.
  • Practical understanding of version control tool like GIT
  • TUV SUD Functional Safety certification
  • Extensive exposure to artificial intelligence / deep learning is a plus.
