The Opal Australian Paper Division is the home of Reflex and is a leading employer in the beautiful Latrobe Valley. With over 800 team members on site, the Maryvale Paper Mill is the largest manufacturing plant in the Opal portfolio.     

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for analysing installed and proposed plant equipment for opportunities to improve its profitability through the optimisation of the installation and/or control of this equipment. 

You will contribute to the success of Opal by:

Strategically analyse proposed and installed hardware and software to ensure that these are able to be supported and maintained efficiently throughout the equipment lifecycle and feed this information into the long-term asset management plans.
Ensure that Control Systems and associated Electrical Equipment is managed to allow the Mill to meet future Operational and Quality Plans.
Lead and support improvement project teams with Control Systems Engineering knowledge, skills, and experience to achieve world-class outcomes.
Develop and Review Automation Descriptions and use these to Program and Commission code on PLC, SCADA, QCS and DCS systems.
Develop Designs, Scopes of Work, Cost Estimates and Expenditure Submissions for Electrical and Automation Improvements projects.
Perform and manage software integration and system modifications within the control systems.

Minimum of 10+ years of post-graduate experience as an Electrical, Instrumentation or Automation Engineer, on site within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment or related industries.
Intimate knowledge of ABB System 800xA and Bailey required; knowledge of Siemens and Metso PLC’s and advantage.
Broad understanding of all engineering disciplines used in Maintenance/Production (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Chemical).
Have strong problem solving skills as demonstrated by your ability to conduct root cause analyses and logically examine complex information to make an accurate judgement and formulate clear recommendations.
Strong knowledge of statutory requirements for Electrical Equipment and Personnel, as well as Asset Management.
A demonstrable background of outstanding safety.
