Your new company This Federal Government Department is working on high profile policy issues affecting the sustainable development of Australia's natural resources with significant ongoing interaction with Industry, Government and community stakeholders, the science and research community, and Australia's major trading partners. Your new role Are you a finance professional with a passion for public service? Do you have experience in managing grant programs and providing financial advice to clients? Do you enjoy working in a dynamic and collaborative team environment? If you answered yes to these questions, then we have an exciting opportunity for you! We are looking for an EL1 Finance Business Partner to join our Strategic and Analytical Team. You will be responsible for the financial management of grant programs and the provision of finance support to divisions. You will also supervise staff and work on a wide range of functions, including budgeting, financial analysis, reporting, modelling and process improvement. As an EL1 in the Strategic and Analytical Team, you are required to supervise staff and work on a wide range of functions, including:

Financial management of grant programs including commitment reporting, accruals, variance analysis, reconciliations and distribution of reports
Preparing and monitoring of Administered budgets and financial performance in consultation with divisions
Providing advice and support on financial queries
Undertaking financial modelling and supporting financial decision-making in relation to grant programs
Developing and maintaining program management tools for use by customers of the programs
Participating and contributing to process improvement activities to enable consistencies and efficiencies to be achieved across the spectrum of corporate services provided to divisions
Delivering other financial services as directed

As you will be engaging and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders both internally and externally, well-developed communication skills with the ability to foster professional relationships whilst building rapport and trust is a must. What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

A comprehensive understanding of the Australian Government's financial framework and the accrual accounting principles in a public sector environment
Demonstrated experience in financial management processes, preferably in the public sector environment, and the use of financial management information systems (e.g. Technology One)
Supervisory experience in a finance area and the ability to organise work, set priorities and complete tasks within set timeframes
Demonstrated experience in providing high quality information to clients and ability to anticipate the expectations of clients and to ensure service standards are met
An ability to develop productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
High level proficiency in the use of Excel
Well-developed skills in communication, analysis and problem-solving
A commitment to a culture of teamwork, excellence and continuous improvement
