Decathlon is an international sporting goods company in over 55 countries worldwide. We are looking for passionate sports lovers in Australia to join our start-up team. Each new teammate will help us serve our purpose each day; ‘Making sport accessible. We started our Australian activity in 2016 with our online business, and we now have seven large stores across Sydney and Melbourne. We are currently recruiting for a Sustainability Development & Circular Economy Leader (Environmental Economist) to reduce our impact on the planet by defining and using a business model that benefits society and economic performance. Lead the workshop, second life and other circular economy commercial strategies in order to propose more sport and sustainable services to Australian customers.


SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT & CIRCULAR ECONOMY LEADER

The Sustainability Development & Circular Economy leader oversees the sustainability strategies and environmental policy for Decathlon Australia, in line with Decathlon United sustainability priorities. They adapt our policies to local issues and stake, and lead the workshop commercial strategies at country level, develop sport services with a strong focus on the reparability to gain market share. The ultimate objective is to reduce our impact on the planet using a model that benefits society and economic performance.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Identify what is at stake, both externally and internally, to challenge Decathlon's activities and orientations.
Educate, enlighten and engage with Australian teammates on the Sustainability topic, empowering them to take action in their daily jobs to contribute to the Decathlon Australian Sustainability project.
Educate, enlighten and engage with Australian customers on the Sustainability topic, empowering them to integrate Sustainability into their daily lives.
I know my market, people needs for sport services and customers; I have sport market data and commercial strategies and policy
Connect and bring people together by sharing our common Sustainability purpose and actions.
I create and engage a strong Sustainability Leaders network in my country to cover the main Sustainability topics (logistic, real estate, operations, retail etc.) and empower people to take action.
I create and engage a strong Sustainability Leader network amongst all sites and empower people to take action locally.
In case of external enquiries on Sustainability topics (press, NGO, customers, public administration etc.) I represent my country and I know that my external communication reflects the global reputation of Decathlon United.
I connect to external stakeholders and peers within Australia to challenge and enrich my project.
I am connected to the wider Sustainability community at Decathlon United level and I contribute to achieve the targets set out in the Decathlon United Transition Plan.

Empower and involve teammates, making them autonomous, by providing purpose, creating tools, methods, training and coaching.
I ensure each business unit integrates Sustainability into their project and I support them with technical knowledge, advice and tools when needed.
I activate the Sustainability network and motivate teammates to take action in reducing our environmental impact.
I provide a framework and clear direction for Australian teammates so they know how and where they can act on sustainability
I create and manage a clear training path to educate teammates on Sustainability, climate change and ecodesign.
I manage the Circular Economy: implement strategies and keep the project moving towards the 2026 target and direction.
I manage the CO2, ensuring all CO2 calculations and reports are completed on time and that my CO2 trajectory is built and followed.
I provide clear guidelines for Australian workshop teammates so they know how and where they can act and provide right level of service
Manage (report, analyse, forecast) and share key indicators to improve environmental performance.
I am responsible for the calculation of Decathlon Australia's carbon footprint and I am data driven to build the CO2 trajectory.
I regularly share key indicators to all stakeholders to ensure the CO2 trajectory is followed and environmental KPIs are respected.
I alert necessary stakeholders when needed and support them in their action plans when performances are poor.
I am responsible for integrating sustainability into all key areas; Energy, Recycling, Transport, Mobility, Product impact, Teammate engagement & Customer engagement.
I am responsible to ensure Sustainable turnover, ecodesign turnover and CO2 targets are achieved.
I Manage the service range offer in store and online from offer definition, pricing policy, merchandising and communication


SKILLS

Sustainability knowledge & experience in this field.
Experience in project management.
Experience in functional management.
Experience in people management and ability to develop teammates.
Experience working with external partners/suppliers/peers collaboratively.
Customer oriented mindset
Pragmatism

Curiosity: being curious and understanding the wider context of sustainability outside of Decathlon.
Innovative: being open-minded and innovative in finding solutions to reduce environmental impact.
Approachable: connecting to Australian teammates and being understanding to their concerns.
Communication: having open and clear communication,
Collaboration: team working is key to ensure everyone is moving in the same direction to achieve the collective goals.
Rigorous: being detailed in your KPIs and action plans follow up.
Solution oriented: being a challenger to tackle every blocking point in your project.
Leadership: convincing key stakeholders to follow up their action plans.
Degree in economics, commence or related field
2-3 years relevant work experience, specifically in Sustainability
