Role Purpose
We believe in earning our customers’ trust by acting responsibly and doing the right thing for our people, our customers, our communities and our environment.

You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for driving the sustainability agenda within Woolworths. You will develop and support the implementation of the Group strategy addressing our approach to deforestation and high-risk commodities (HRC). You will provide technical guidance and advice to our teams regarding HRC’s and their connection to sustainable agriculture practices. You will be responsible for partnering with internal teams, trading partners and industry to drive the sustainability agenda within Woolworths Group while measuring and tracking our performance.


Key responsibilities:
-Creating or updating strategies that deliver on Woolworths’ commitments for deforestation and high-risk commodities.
-Building capability to deliver deforestation and high-risk commodity commitments in relevant business units, including palm oil, paper, pulp, timber, beef, soy, tea, coffee, cocoa and sugar (and others as included over time).
-Representing Woolworths as a subject matter expert for deforestation and high risk commodities.
-Ensuring accurate tracking and reporting on Woolworths deforestation and high risk commodity commitments, identifying and communicating delivery risks internally.
-Working with our teams to ensure compliance to external frameworks and Woolworths Brand Guidelines.
-Reporting on emerging markets trends in relation to high risk commodities and deforestation.
-Building strong relationships between internal & external stakeholders, NGOs and Certification bodies including but not limited to FSC / PEFC, RSPO, Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade, Bonsucro, ABSF.
-Monitor regulatory, competitor and media developments relating to sustainability and advocate for Woolworths as appropriate.
-Partnering with Policy and Regulatory Team to develop and implement training on policies/procedures related to deforestation and high-risk commodities.
-Responding to Customer and NGO engagement in matters relating to deforestation and high-risk commodities.
-Participating in special projects as advised by line and senior managers from time to time (e.g. sustainable and regenerative agriculture initiatives).

What you bring to the role
-Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of compliance requirements, standards and emerging issues regarding palm oil, beef, paper pulp and timber, soy, sugar, cocoa, tea and coffee
-Experience working with third party certifiers and implementing these certifications schemes into a business e.g. Forest Stewardship Council
-Broad knowledge and experience of the retail/FMCG or ESG industry in executing sustainability programs
-Experience communicating environmental policies and procedures
-Ability to horizon scan local and international market for consumer and competitive information to inform and ensure policies and strategies are appropriate and future proof
-Strong ability to manage competing priorities and projects efficiently in a large organisation
-Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate peers, communicate with staff and engage with management
-Strong problem solving skills
-Strategy development and implementation skills
-Attention to detail and analytical capability
-Ability to adapt to new and evolving business priorities
