Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Who we’re looking for
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide support and services to our Underground Operations and other Technical Services at Cadia Valley Operations including assisting with the restart of the existing Ridgeway Deeps block cave and further development works.
The Geotechnical Engineer will prevent and mitigate the potential geotechnical major hazards and material risks to the site, company, and personnel. In addition, you will be actively involved in major hazard monitoring and risk management, rehabilitation planning, potential development works and scheduling at an operational level.
Key responsibilities include:
Underground inspections that include damage and ground conditions mapping of excavations and ground support, liaising with crews at the face, general ground inspections, and other in-field geotechnical assessments.
Underground inrush hazard monitoring, including fragmentation monitoring, regular hazard reporting and risk management
Regular seismic data analysis and reporting using relevant seismic software packages (IMS, mXrap,etc.).
Liaising with planning engineers and production teams to provide geotechnical input about cave draw strategy, geotechnical risk management, upcoming development, rehabilitation programs among others.
Drafting of Not To Specification Reports (NTSRs) and Ground Support Modification (GSMs) documents for the execution of required support rehabilitation.
Assist senior geotechnical engineers for maintaining key geotechnical documentation, undertaking geotechnical assessments and system audits.
LiDAR scanning of excavations and deformation analysis.
I-Site mapping of Geological structures and wedge analysis using UnWedge.
Geotechnical presentations to crews and information sessions
Assist with subsidence monitoring, surface geotechnical monitoring and major hazard management where required
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to influence key stakeholders to meet business objectives.
You will also possess the following:
Experience in underground mining and hard rock mining (preferable)
Bachelor’s degree or higher in either geotechnical, mining, civil engineering, or geology disciplines
Mandatory: Open manual car licence
Please note: This is a 5/2 (9 hours per day) or 9 days per fortnight (10 hours per day) residential role in Orange, NSW.
