General Deckhand/Fishinghand
We are looking for deckhands for a prawn fishing vessel that works in Shark Bay Prawns. Deckhand/Fishinghand’s primary role is to catch, sort and process prawns and other related by-catch, onboard McBoats owned fishing vessels. Secondary is the requirement to assist with vessel maintenance / refit, watch-keeping, re-fuelling, cooking, and cleaning as required.
Qualifications:
Must have fishing experience on live aboard fishing vessel.
Net mending experience and seafood processing would be preferred.
Able to work as team aboard vessel.
Demonstrated evidence of shipboard safety at sea
Current Workplace First Aid certificate
Job Description;
Sorting and process prawns and by catch
Freezer stacking and unloading
Net work and rope splicing.
General deck work and cleaning.
Off season vessel refits, painting and assisting tradesmen.
Onshore seafood processing factory work available.
Physical Demands;
Ability to lift objects weighing between 25-30kg.
Spending extended periods of time with limited personal space
Ability to ascend and descend stairs or ladders whilst transporting tools and objects
Ability to work in rough seas
Offer;
Can offer 9-10month per year work
Vessel is based in Geraldton and works for 120 days out of Carnarvon doing 3 weeks on 1 week off.
