Skilled Occupation: Social Worker
Job Description:
o The position works in the skilled occupation of Social Worker and reports to our Chief Operating Officer and provides specialist casework and support services under the NSW Government’s Specialist Homelessness Services program which addresses homelessness and imminent risk of homelessness. We provide services to single women and families, especially women and children from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background who have experienced domestic violence.
Duties:
o Our Social Workers are committed to assessing and supporting the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and the community
o Work to empowering people to achieve their goals acting as a facilitator to connect them with the resources and community services they require to resolve social, welfare, health, housing and other problems.
o Undertake face to face meetings with clients to assess their individual needs, gain an understanding and resolving their problems and provide mediation when needed.
o Attend initial home visits and induction of clients into each refuge.
o Ensure responses to clients are trauma-informed, client-centred and strengths based.
o Excellent record-keeping, including high quality case notes, supervision notes and data collection on CIMS
o In-depth intake assessment and ongoing intensive case management of referrals of clients and their children for legal, psychological, health, housing, income maintenance, immigration and safety issues moving women towards independent living
o Advocacy is an important element of the role, where Social Workers defend and support the rights of women and children to improve their human rights and promote social justice and an improvement in social values.
o Utilising best practice, research and analysis and negotiation skills to respond to social needs through the referral of social resources
o Provide leadership within the community for improved community development and implement new projects and ideas.
o Provision of information, advice, referral, advocacy and ongoing case management especially with women and children from a CALD background.
o Cultivate stakeholder relationships with private rental agents and other community housing providers, to develop referral pathways and strong referral networks with these local services.
o Provide guidance and support to other casework staff and creating stakeholder relationships to develop referral pathways for women who are moving into the private rental market.
o Undertake on-call services and oversight across both of our refuges
o Work with clients from a strengths-based, client-centred, trauma-informed approach. In general, case management is provided to clients accommodated in the refuges or transitional or medium-term housing options. Some case management is with clients who are living independently and in need of more intensive ongoing support.
o Participate in group supervision, fortnightly supervision with Director of Services, regular staff meetings and relevant external committees.
o Ongoing professional development
o Adherence to internal policies and procedures and WH&S requirements and Code of Conduct
o Provide oversight of Lane Cove refuge operation in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer
o Appropriate use of WACF assets and resources to the optimum level
o Excellent record-keeping, including high quality case notes, supervision notes and data collection on CIMS
o Other job-related duties as required

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA
o Degree qualification or higher in Social Work
o at least 3 years of post-qualification experience is preferred
o ability to manage staff and give direction
o strong assessment and case management skills
o excellent time management, organisational and administrative skills
o demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and prioritise
o understanding of domestic violence and housing systems, and its complexities and consequences, particularly as they affect CALD women and children
o ability to identify, develop and implement strategies to improve the relevance, accessibility and responsiveness of WACF to CALD women
o demonstrated understanding of legal processes in welfare, family law, immigration law and AVO proceedings
o demonstrated experience of working with clients with complex needs, including mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, experience of domestic violence
o demonstrated the ability to build and maintain key stakeholder relationships
o commitment to professional integrity and accountability
o commitment to working in a collegiate, collaborative and co-operative manner
o demonstrated interest in working in a women’s service, assisting women and children
o excellent written and oral communication skills
o Current driver’s licence
o Working with Children Check

DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA
o Speaks a community language
o Experience in working with CALD communities


The position is full-time (38 hours a week)
Salary: Level 5 SCHADS Award
