As a key member of the multi-disciplined Regional Procurement Centre (RPC), the role of Commodity Manager for Maintenance Services is to lead the procurement activities (Commodity Plan, RFP, SRM …) relevant to Maintenance Services on customer assets across various market sectors in Australia.
In this role, the Commodity Manager will ensure that the execution of the sourcing strategy is in line with the business and corporate objectives, and that timeframes and deliverables are aligned in order to deliver the best overall outcome (cost, service and/or quality) for Thales Australia.
The role covers all the market sectors within Thales Australia, and as such requires an excellent view of the organization as well as a strong ability to interact with many stakeholders while maintaining a clear regional strategy. He/she will be knowledgeable Maintenance market, especially in the maritime and ship repair sectors.
As a Commodity Manager, you are accountable for:
Defining Long Term Procurement Strategy for Maintenance Service:
o Developing a category strategy, that meets the regional and global business objectives;
o Actively sourcing, assessing and qualifying potential suppliers;
o Understanding the demand for this type of activities across Thales Australia;
o Collating and optimising the demand;
o Setting up contractual agreements;
o Analysing and reporting on Spend Management;
o With the support of the Global Category Manager, keeping abreast of industry and category’s best practices.

Leading the tendering process for bids and projects involving Maintenance Services by:
o Executing the sourcing strategy through a disciplined RFI/ RFQ tendering process;
o Managing the RFQ process, which includes creation of RFQ package, release to market, review supplier responses, provide recommendations;
o Identifying risks and opportunities;
o Influencing the design and/ or specification to generate additional savings;
o Proposing a negotiation strategy and lead the negotiation;
o Coordinating closure on the final decision;
o Executing the procurement contract.

• Supporting the Supply Chain process by:
o Managing the supplier’s performance (quality, cost and timely delivery), including risks and opportunities;
o Leading the supplier performance review program;
o Managing key Project stakeholders.

Experience required:
• Experience in Maintenance Services and related activities
• 5+ Years Procurement, Contract Management or Commercial experience
• Experience working in a complex Project environment
• Experience working within a large organisation and dealing with all levels of management
• Experience in negotiating and managing contract spends of up to $30M per annum
• Strong Communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to develop strong relationship with internal stakeholders and influence decisions
• Recognised professional accreditation (CIPS, EIPM, RICS or equivalent)
• Strong skill base in IT productivity tools such as Office and Excel
• High levels of responsiveness and internal customer focus
