About the Role
The position of Associate Professor of Experimental Finance and/or Decision Neuroscience contributes to leadership in research, teaching and service activities in the Department of Finance. Based in the Centre for Brain, Mind and Markets, the incumbent will undertake scholarly research activities, leading to publications in high quality journals across various fields such as finance, economics, neuroscience, decision sciences, computer science and psychology. The incumbent will present his/her research at prominent international conferences on decision sciences and related areas. The incumbent will also undertake high quality teaching in relevant finance and decision sciences-related subjects and have a strong commitment to student learning outcomes. The incumbent will apply for competitive research grant funding leading to high quality publications and have the ability and willingness to engage with industry, government and the wider community. Service duties commensurate with the position will also be undertaken.

Your responsibilities will include:

Conducting research, leading to scholarly publications in top-tier and high-quality journals in experimental finance, experimental economics, neuroscience, decision science and psychology
Delivering high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Providing leadership in research by mentoring junior colleagues in establishing their research program, leading a research group, and by actively collaborating in the Centre's research activities
Who We Are Looking For
You should have a substantial and internationally recognised research record, with publications in top-tier journals across various fields such as finance, economics, neuroscience, decision sciences, computer science and psychology. Additionally, you will need experience in high-quality teaching at multiple educational levels, the ability to supervise Honours and Masters students effectively, and the capacity to provide leadership in both teaching and research, as well as attract competitive research funding.

You will also have:

A PhD in finance, financial economics, economics, neuroscience, computer science or psychology
An evident concern for the welfare of students
Strong interpersonal and communication skills

This position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check to ensure the University provides a safe environment for everyone.

About the Department of Finance
The Department of Finance is one of four teaching and research departments within the Faculty of Business and Economics. It has over 40 full-time academic staff, five full-time professional staff and finance practitioners who serve as sessional teaching staff. In 2023, the Department had over 13,000 students across more than 60 subjects.

The Department’s research objective is to produce high-quality research, publishable in elite international journals. There is a strong emphasis within the Department on encouraging a positive research culture, promoting collaboration, and providing a supportive atmosphere. The Department is also interested in supporting the Faculty’s strategy of having a strong research focus on new and emerging fields. About the Centre for Brain, Mind and Markets
The Centre for Brain, Mind and Markets (https://unimelb.edu.au/cbmm) is a newly established research centre focusing on inter-disciplinary research on decision-making. The centre brings together researchers from economics, finance, computer science, psychology and neuroscience to study fundamental aspects of human and machine decision-making. The centre also has a growing translational research program. Centre members collaborate closely with researchers in departments in the University and affiliates research institutes. Most of the research in the centre is based on laboratory experiments, ranging from behavioural, eye-tracking, pharmacology, neuro-imaging and markets experiments to non-human animal research.
