Position Overview:

The remedial carpenter is responsible for performing carpentry repairs and remediation work to restore damaged structures or fix issues related to construction defects. This role requires a strong understanding of carpentry techniques, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The remedial carpenter will collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other trade professionals to assess and address construction issues, ensuring that the repaired structures meet quality standards and comply with safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Carpentry Repairs: Execute carpentry repairs and renovations to rectify structural damage or construction defects. This includes tasks such as replacing damaged or rotted wood, repairing or installing doors and windows, fixing framing issues, and addressing other carpentry-related challenges.
2. Remediation Assessments: Conduct thorough assessments of construction issues or damage to determine the scope of work required for remediation. Identify the root causes of problems, evaluate potential solutions, and provide recommendations to project managers and stakeholders.
3. Problem-solving: Analyze complex construction issues and develop innovative solutions to rectify problems efficiently and effectively. Utilize carpentry expertise and knowledge to troubleshoot challenges encountered during the remediation process.
4. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of work performed, including before-and-after photos, measurements, materials used, and other relevant information. Prepare accurate reports on the status of projects, outlining completed tasks, ongoing work, and any outstanding issues or concerns.
5. Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all repairs and renovations comply with relevant building codes, regulations, and safety standards. Adhere to established safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and others on-site.
6. Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other trade professionals to coordinate remediation efforts effectively. Communicate project updates, share knowledge and insights, and work together to achieve project goals within specified timelines.
7. Tools and Equipment: Operate and maintain a wide range of carpentry tools, equipment, and machinery necessary for remediation work. Ensure all tools are in good working condition, properly stored, and used safely and efficiently.

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a carpenter, preferably with a focus on remediation or repairs.
• Solid knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to think creatively to find practical
solutions.
• Attention to detail and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and construction plans. Familiarity with
building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform demanding tasks.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily conducted outdoors and at times in a hot and dusty environment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)

The Company will monitor your performance during your term of employment. In the process of doing so, the Company will take into account your ability to undertake and complete the specific matters outlined in clause 1. But in addition to those matters, there are certain factors, which shall be deemed as Key Performance Indicators (“KPI’s”). Those factors are:
(a) Managing your time by delivering the tasks allocated to you by your site foreman/manager
(b) Ensuring that you inform your team of the material and equipment requirements for upcoming works
(c) Improving your overall remedial knowledge and problem solving skills on the path of growing in your role.
(d) Demonstrating self-reliance in completing your tasks, organizing employees and subcontractors, and material purchases.
