The Opportunity
Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Chemical Analyst in our Slabmaking Technology team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
As a key member of a highly skilled and collaborative team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service by providing high-quality sample results to our production team and key stakeholders. You’ll be troubleshooting and resolving instrument issues and ensuring the reliability of our testing processes. You will leverage advanced techniques, including OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy), XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence), heat, mass and oven analysis, as well as wet chemistry methods.
Joining an established, professional team, you will work on a rotating 12-hour shift roster (2 days/2 nights – 4 off), Monday through Sunday. As this this is a steel production laboratory and operates 24x7 - some of these tasks are time-critical.

What Will You Do?
In this role, you will perform chemical analysis of steel, slags, metal coatings, iron ores, limestone and other raw materials to enable conversion of iron ore to steel. You'll
- checking samples supplied for quality and integrity
- preparing samples to a defined standard to ensure accuracy of results
- performing various analysis routines, validating results based on analysis process limits
- conducting routine inspections and maintenance on equipment required for sampling, sample preparation and analysis and take any necessary corrective actions
- preparing solutions and standards required for both sampling and chemical analysis
- proactively identify opportunities to improve and streamline our procedures or testing

- familiarity with computing data management and control
- familiarity with automation
