What You'll Do
We currently have an exciting full-time permanent opportunity for an experienced Energy Solutions Engineer to join the NRMA’s Energy Team.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this role will work closely with all functions in the NRMA Energy business providing engineering expertise associated with land acquisition, infrastructure procurement, site design, delivery, and commissioning in order to deliver the NRMA’s national EV charging network and distributed energy ambitions.
This role based from Sydney or Brisbane with hybrid work options available. You will need to be willing to travel to regions and perform remote site based work, as and when required, in the role.
Specifically, you will be required to:
- Provide desktop evaluations of candidate locations, and support field inspection activities, in coordination with the Acquisition team
- Produce initial site plans based on site inspection reports and internal stakeholder feedback
- Prepare and submit DNSP enquiries and applications, as well as manage Retailer interactions as necessary, for proposed NRMA Energy installations
- Review design drawings, providing commentary and instruction to enable the best outcomes for proposed NRMA Energy installations
- Provide input and support on proof-of-concept activities and new designs
- Liaise with local contractors and agree on technical requirements needed for electrical power distribution equipment and EV charging stations
- Assist with the management of compliance of network and electrical system designs, and operational activities in accordance with legislation, codes of practice and accredited standards
- Assist with the undertaking of asset condition and compliance audits and the effective management, calculation, examination, assessment & analysis of information
- Prepare concept designs to be used in Request for Quotation activities with suppliers
- Enhancing the NRMA’s Energy capabilities and working with our partners to deliver and commission Energy assets.
- Be actively involved in the proposal of innovative solutions for the electrification of the mobility sector (e.g. megawatt charging, wireless charging, flexibility in electrical demand, V2L, V2G etc).
- Provide operational and technical input for routine and non-routine operations and maintenance activities.
- Assist in the review, update, and creation of NRMA Energy technical standards, procedures, and operating guidelines
- Engineering document control including document management and internal/external transmittals
- Maintain and develop new datasheets and documents to standardise and sustain engineering requirements
- Review detailed schematics from suppliers and address any required changes
- Attend Factory Acceptance Test activities in supplier premises
- Gather information of site faults and perform root-cause analysis.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronic)
- 3- 5 years' Engineering experience in the design and management of:
- Battery Storage,
- Photovoltaics, Solar Energy,
- Microgrids,
- EV Charging, and
- Connection approvals with DNSP
- Experience with EV charging stations would be advantageous but is not essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain compelling relationships
- Proven ability to interact with multiple functions within an organisation to deliver goals, particularly across project delivery, operations and procurement
- Project management qualifications with the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects would be advantageous
- Proven track record of performing in high-intensity environments, operating within tight financial resources and meeting challenging deadlines
- Positive personality, with a “can do” attitude, energetic leadership style and strong resilience
- A good balance of structured & holistic thinking with fast moving and pragmatic execution
- Passionate about continuous improvement, process efficiency and collaboration
- Develop a structured process to increase efficiency in delivery of the above objectives
- Knowledge of current Australian regulations and standards
