Offshore renewable energy will become a crucial part of the mix as Australia works to meet its emission reduction targets. And throughout the transition continued regulation of the oil and gas industry is as critical as ever.
NOPSEMA (The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority), is the regulator for Australia’s offshore energy industry and has recently expanded its functions to include offshore renewables regulation in its capacity as the Offshore Infrastructure Regulator (OIR).
NOPSEMA is immediately recruiting experienced Environment and Decommissioning Specialists across a range of disciplines to join our growing team of professionals within its Regulatory Operations and Strategic Regulation and Improvement Divisions in Perth and Melbourne with skills, ability and passion to make a difference and improve environmental outcomes for offshore petroleum, greenhouse gas storage and offshore renewable energy activities.
Candidates with substantial expertise and experience in the following areas are actively being sought:
• Marine environmental impact assessment or marine environmental quality.
• Marine noise impact assessment.
• Ecotoxicology.
• Benthic ecology.
• Fish ecology with an understanding of commercial fisheries.
• Environmental impact assessment for decommissioning offshore infrastructure.
• Monitoring of and assessment of impacts from greenhouse gas emissions (petroleum).
• Assessment of greenhouse gas storage activities.
We would like to hear from you if you are passionate about protecting the environment and ensuring that offshore energy projects and activities are implemented in an ecologically sustainable manner, have a strong background in marine environmental assessment and management of offshore projects and activities.
As an Environment or Decommissioning Specialist, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to ensure that the offshore energy industry operates in an environmentally responsible manner. You will be responsible for:
1. Providing specialist technical skills and advice on matters relating to marine environmental management of offshore energy projects and decommissioning activities.
2. Assessing Environment Plans, Offshore Project Proposals, and management plans under the Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Act, and advising on environmental impact assessment documents under the EPBC Act.
3. Undertaking inspections, investigations and enforcement actions relating to implementation of monitoring, associated management response commitments and decommissioning requirements.
4. Supporting effective regulation of the offshore energy sector, in line with relevant requirements.
5. Engaging with industry and other stakeholders.
