The aim of this role is to contribute specialist mechanical engineering knowledge, skills, and experience to the manufacture of functional mining components at Mining Mart.
Scope of the Role:
This role involves working with clients to design and engineer mining components that are essential for extending the life of vital and expensive mining machinery.
Main Duties:
3D Scanning and Modelling:
The role requires the utilization of advanced 3D scanning technologies to capture precise data on mining components, ensuring that functionality requirements are clearly defined. It also involves analyzing existing mining components to understand their materials, ensuring these components can be effectively manufactured.
Design and Engineering:
The incumbent will develop innovative designs for mining components based on project requirements. CAD software will be used to create comprehensive engineering drawings and specifications. Furthermore, the role involves engineering components to improve their performance, efficiency, and durability.
Material Selection and Analysis:
A key responsibility is evaluating material properties to ensure optimal selection for mining applications. Material testing and analysis will be conducted to assess durability and performance, ensuring components meet the necessary standards.
Prototyping and Testing:
The role includes creating prototypes for new designs and conducting thorough testing to validate their performance. Collaboration with on-site testing teams will be essential to analyze results and make design improvements as necessary.
Collaboration and Communication:
Close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and project managers at client sites, is required. The incumbent will also work with clients to understand specific needs and incorporate their feedback into the design process.
Cost Analysis and Optimization:
The role involves conducting cost analyses to optimize designs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Opportunities for cost reduction must be identified without compromising the quality of the designs and components.
Documentation:
The incumbent is responsible for maintaining detailed and organized documentation of designs, specifications, and testing results. All engineering documentation must meet industry standards and comply with regulations.
Project Management:
Managing multiple projects simultaneously is a crucial aspect of this role. The incumbent will ensure that deadlines and milestones are met and will collaborate with project managers at client sites to align with overall project goals. This includes overseeing the installation of parts, managing offsite manufacturing, and ensuring parts are designed, specified, and produced effectively within a timely manner.
Continuous Improvement:
To enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the design and engineering processes, the incumbent must stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices. Continuous improvement initiatives should be implemented to drive innovation in the organization.
Hours of Work:
This is a full-time role, requiring a minimum of 38 hours per week.
Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification experience is required. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to produce robust and innovative mechanical engineering designs that ensure the effective operation of products and create ongoing demand from the client base.

The incumbent must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines is crucial.
