We are currently looking to add an Engineering Manager to help drive the Product Engineering DXP roadmap. We're seeking an energetic technical leader who is driven by building and leading high performing engineering teams.

We’re location-flexible!  This role is open to all candidates on the east coast of Australia.

This role is hybrid, allowing you to work where and when works best for you.

For this role, we ask that you can demonstrate the following experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, equivalent professional experience in related fields
• 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager or in a similar technical leadership role
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development building and maintain large-scale software products
• Proficiency in full-stack development, with expertise in web based languages and frameworks such as Node, TypeScript, React or similar, and cloud platforms such as AWS
• Experience with Agile or other iterative development methodologies. We use Scrum for most of the teams, with some using Kanban
• You have shown your ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, and make decisions that align with business strategy
• Proven track record as a mentor and coach, who has developed teams by growing your people

Nice to have

• Previous experience working on DXP or CMS platforms, or experience integrating or using DXP/CMS platforms
• Experience or knowledge of ISO27001 / SOC1 / SOC2, or previous involvement in attaining and retaining security accreditation at an organisational level

 What you would do (the role day to day): 

• Work across 3-5 software engineering teams to help build our Digital Experience Platform. Each team consists of a Team Lead, and 3 or 4 software engineers at different levels - junior, mid and senior
• Provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support professional development of Team Leads and Software Engineers
• Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of software projects
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget

The Engineering Practices department sets and maintains the standards of engineering excellence used by all our teams across our diverse software engineering and technology department of over 400 staff. The department encompasses software architecture, agile practices and ways of working, quality processes, including “shift-left” initiatives and defensive security engineering.

This role manages Practice Leads across four main disciplines of Software Architecture, Agile Delivery, Quality & Security. Each Practice is a center of excellence that drives best practice, consistency in execution and creates a continuous improvement culture across each specialty.

As the Head Of Engineering Practices you’ll be leading the team setting the standards that guide our delivery teams. This role is based out of Nine’s North Sydney Office, with an expectation to be in the office at least 3 days a week. 

Role Responsibilities:

• Lead the software engineering standards function with your previous experience building, designing and developing highly available, high traffic websites & systems.
• Use your DevOps & Cloud experience and communication skills to drive consensus across Nine to continue building our common application delivery platform using Kubernetes in AWS.
• Develop and own Nine Technology standards for Engineering platforms and systems, integrating legacy platforms, current and emerging patterns and systems.
• Create guidelines and procedures for Nine Technology teams to ensure solutions meet agreed and required standards.
• Create and maintain a maturity level framework to provide consistent and structured development helping teams across Nine to continuously improve.
• Use your leadership skills to inspire and empower the four Practice Leads to drive change and improvement across each of their practice disciplines.

Purpose of your role

As part of the Technology management team, this role will provide overall leadership and direction for OFX’s Capability Platforms, including the software engineering discipline to ensure core business goals are supported and successfully executed on.

Your primary responsibility will be building a practice of highly skilled and motivated software engineers and engineering managers, that are assigned to work in highly autonomous, cross-functional and empowered delivery teams. You will contribute to the OFX business objectives by coaching your direct reports to work as high performing teams, developing the culture and practices that ensure that every individual understands and is contributing to the overall Technology strategy.

You will collaborate with the Technology management team, including Engineering Directors, Head of Portfolio & Release Planning, Information Systems, and Security, to deliver impactful outcomes for OFX. You will also work with the Product division, and business stakeholders to ensure your portfolio delivers business value and aligns with the Technology strategy, security and compliance requirements, and budget.

Working with the Technology Management team, you will agree on cross-practice strategies for talent & resource management, engagement & delivery, vendor and technology standards, enterprise architecture, risk management and engineering tooling and culture. Outside of these common standards, the Engineer Director is responsible for the frameworks, methodologies, resource development, technology solutions and the operating model within the Product Platforms practice.

In addition to your background in software engineering and people management, you need soft skills in relationship building, team leadership, motivation, communication, and stakeholder management. You will ensure teams understand the vision, establish processes, facilitate collaboration, and make critical (sometimes tough) decisions to achieve delivery outcomes in an inclusive and overall enjoyable environment. 

What you do

• Set a Technical vision and define the strategy for the Capability Platforms domain including Payments, Treasury, FX, Pricing, Data, Cloud and Engineering platforms
• Ensure engineering and other practices and processes are defined, communicated, evolved and adhered to within your practice
• Lead architectural direction and decision making within your practice
• Effectively manage Tech Debt and software costs within your practice
• Management of Technology vendors, including financial budget, within your practice

• Ensure all direct reports have clear and measurable objectives which adhere to the divisions approach and relate to team, product and organisational metrics
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, both Technology and other business divisions including effective ongoing communication approaches
• Work with the CTO, People and Culture and your peers in Product and Technology to evangelise OFX and Technology across the industry for the development of future OFX talent acquisition

In this role, you will be responsible for leading, managing and setting the technical direction for a team of software engineers to design, craft, and maintain high quality software products and solutions that support our business operations and engage our users.

You will work closely with cross-functional, agile teams to identify and prioritise technical solutions and product features that delight our customers and our internal users. You will help to drive and deliver the continued development of those technical solutions from concept to launch.
