What you'll do

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to be Open’s first data engineer on the ground in London and lead our expansion into the UK and Europe.

As aSenior Data Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the following:

• Evaluate data needs and objectives across the business
• Analyse and organise raw data to build data systems and pipelines
• Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive modelling by building algorithms and prototypes
• Combine raw information from different sources, data acquisition
• Develop analytical tools and programs
• Develop and maintain data systems (data warehouse, data lake etc.) and pipelines
• Monitor data pipelines ensuring performance metrics remain within acceptable limits, and continuously improving their efficiency, quality and transparency
• Develop and contribute to data pipeline documentation and guidelines
• Develop and manage external data feeds for partners in the UK
• Work closely with Product, Design, Data, and various stakeholders to deliver business and customer value each step of the way

As part of this role, we will support you to relocate to London, UK after spending your first 4-6 months with the team in Sydney preparing for Open’s launch into the UK and Europe.

What you’ll bring

Ideally you will have:

• 5+ years of experience working with data
• Working experience with higher-level languages, Python and SQL. 
• Good understanding of building ETL/ELT data pipelines and data warehousing/reporting techniques
• Experience in data platform development on AWS. Data-driven, and a robust data backbone is necessary for our systems. We build on core AWS services such as EC2, S3, DynamoDB, SageMaker, StepFunctions, etc. and also on Snowflake
• Hands on experience with SQL database design
• Exposure to a wide variety of data sources beyond SQL Database, like accessing data through APIs, files, data streams etc.
• Experience in data modelling and domain-driven design
• Solid understanding of software engineering practices, design patterns and architecture paradigms and the ability to impart this knowledge onto those in your team
• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities

Role location

Remuneration
Ranging between 82,000.00 and 85,000.00

As we continue to expand our team across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom we are seeking a Director - Consulting – Data Platforms with extensive experience as a trusted adviser to clients on strategic data projects and working as a leader of consulting and technology teams to see these through to successful delivery.

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working at the forefront with clients as a trusted advisor to shape their data strategy and drive impact through projects at the intersection of data and technology.

• You are a natural leader that loves bringing clients and teams along complex yet exciting journeys.
• You would have learnt your craft and risen to Senior Manager/Director level within one of the top tier consulting firms (Deloitte, Accenture, KPMG, McKinsey, BCG, Bain, EY).
• You have a proven track record of success leading high value strategic data focussed programmes of work for leading enterprises, governments or technology companies driving transformation initiatives, or high value business focussed use-cases.

Your background

• Held a senior role in a consulting firm as a Partner, Director or Senior manager having moved up through the ranks having previously worked in fields that could have included product management, strategy, business analysis, architecture, or technical leadership.
• Evidence of the ability to understand and influence business strategy and the ability to create transformation strategies and design target state business architecture.
• Experience across the project life cycle from strategy and advisory, scoping and planning, requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment.
• Evidence of having successfully delivered and led advisory engagements, driving positive outcomes, and developing opportunities to deliver follow-on work.
• Evidence of leading successful large-scale, complex technology / data transformation delivery engagements in alignment to a client’s strategic objectives.
• Evidence of managing teams, including multiple workstreams in complex delivery environments.
• Experience in leading and supporting sales efforts, as well as shaping deals and engagement commercials.

About the role

In this role you will be spearheading how multinational organisations, governments and technology companies solve complex business problems using data.

These projects will involve consulting with clients on:

• The modernisation and transformation of existing data platforms – shift to the cloud, platform uplift and modernisation
• Business opportunities with use-cases that can be addressed solved through data combined with technology and our consulting
• Develop a relationship with key client stakeholders to understand their challenges and business objectives.
• Relate business problems to the technology teams and communicate how technology provides business solutions.
• The ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders.
• In this role you will be spearheading how large-multinational organisations solve complex business problems using data.
• You’ll be partnering with clients to solve complex problems and lead them on a journey from defining a strategy to delivering market-leading solutions that achieve real business results.
• Partner with senior stakeholders as a thought leader and provide strategic advice to help them maximise the value of their data.
• Co-create client business objectives and measure performance against these to inform refinements and pivots.
• Cross-sell and deliver on data projects for key clients, growing revenue and producing case studies to promote the Simple Machines services.
