About You
You are a dedicated and passionate professional with a strong background in Marine Safety and a thorough understanding of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s legislation (AMSA).
Your experience in safety management equips you with the skills necessary to effectively lead and uphold Safety Management System (SMS) standards in compliance with regulatory requirements. You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to coach and educate team members at all levels, promoting a safety-focused culture across the organisation.
Your proactive approach and enthusiasm drive you to continually seek improvements and implement initiatives that enhance health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance. You thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoying the challenge of leading investigations into incidents and providing well-informed briefings and decisions to key stakeholders.
With a high level of personal presentation and attention to detail, you are committed to achieving excellence in all aspects of your work. In addition to your technical qualifications, you are innovative and change-oriented, always looking for ways to enhance operational practices and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Your capability in planning and facilitating maritime safety, security, and WHS training, alongside your focus on health and wellbeing strategies, positions you as a pivotal leader within the marine division.
About The Role
As the Marine HSE Manager at Journey Beyond, you will be the cornerstone of our commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence across our marine businesses. In this key position, you will be responsible for implementing and reviewing our comprehensive safety framework and HSE Strategic Plan, ensuring that all procedures and work practices align with relevant Australian Standards, safety legislative requirements, and corporate policies.
Your primary focus will include conducting regular Safety Audits across all marine operations within the Marine and Attraction and Dining Divisions, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement. You will play a vital role in updating Safety Management Systems (SMS) to reflect any amendments to Marine Order 504, providing critical oversight and guidance that helps drive a strong safety culture.
In addition to leading investigations into health, safety, and environmental incidents, you will coach and educate managers and team members, fostering a workplace environment that prioritises safety and proactive incident reporting. You will coordinate and facilitate meetings for the Marine Advisory Safety Committee and the Management Safety and Compliance Committee, ensuring timely and effective follow-through on actions determined during these meetings.
Your leadership will extend to working collaboratively with Business GMs to enhance staff capability through comprehensive training, emergency drills, and workplace inspections. You will also be instrumental in implementing health and wellbeing strategies, along with managing the operational HSE risk register to mitigate risks and advance safety performance.
This role offers you the opportunity to make a significant impact on the safety landscape of Journey Beyond, ensuring compliance and high standards of safety practices across our marine operations. Your expertise and proactive approach will be crucial in guiding our teams to achieve excellence in health, safety, and environmental management.
Ideally, you will be based in one of our larger Marine businesses in either Perth. WA or Airlie Beach, QLD, but we also welcome applications for our Corporate Office (Adelaide).
